In the fifteenth century, Raphael, one
of the popular artists of the Italian High Renaissance, was
well known for his Virgin and Child paintings. The beauty,
grace and ideal human form are the main features of the child
paintings created by Raphael.
These features are appropriately rendered in Madonna of the
Pinks that was drawn in the year, 1506-1507. The children
endear themselves with their carefree attitude and innocence
excitement while playing with their toys or play things.
This theme "Children at Play" was captured by the
ancient Chinese artists during the Sung dynasty with
ink and color in a genius way.
Capturing the natural appearance of a child was a challenge
to many artists, who were used painting adults and other
objects.
Depicting the soft skin of a child along with innocent
expressions, children of different ages, and so on in
a painting was difficult as it required the artist to
work hard on the usage of brush and mixing colors appropriately.
