In canvas painting, the fabric to be used is extended into the frames made of wood; it is also very useful in holding up a painting inside the wooden casing. The selection of the canvas also depends to a large extent on the type of paint being used.

Canvas painting done on cotton fabric is generally preferred by amateur painters because of the low cost of cotton canvas.

Contemporary procedure of canvas painting captures the improvement in the surface of the canvas as well as the paints being used in the painting itself.

Canvas painting is a very pain-staking and lengthy process that can be easily done by skilled and experienced painters. One thing that needs to be kept in mind in canvas painting is that the fabric must be properly stretched out so as to get smooth layers of paint onto the canvas.
